FAQ:

Blue-Lipped Mussel vs. Green-Lipped Mussel

Green-lipped mussels are known for their high Omega-3 content (EPA and DHA), but blue-lipped mussels are also rich in Omega-3s, though at a slightly lower concentration. More importantly, blue-lipped mussels are notably high in manganese and iodine, supporting bone health, metabolism, and thyroid function. This choice could be a strategic focus on providing a broader range of nutrients that support overall health, including joint health, rather than just concentrating on Omega-3s.

85/15 Beef: Fat Content and Risk of Pancreatitis

The 85/15 beef fat ratio might not be ideal for pets prone to pancreatitis or with sensitive digestive systems. Higher fat content can cause digestive stress, so for pets with specific health concerns, a lower-fat alternative may be more appropriate. For cats, Natural Cravings has created formulas that are 99% protein with lower fat content to meet their high-protein dietary needs. The variety of ingredients and protein-to-fat ratios in the food should ensure that all nutritional requirements are met.

Turkey Necks and Calcium/Phosphorus Ratio

Turkey necks provide a natural source of calcium, but balancing the calcium-to-phosphorus ratio is essential for bone health. Natural Cravings formulates their products to exceed AAFCO requirements and specifically considers the calcium/phosphorus ratio, ensuring the formulas are suitable for growing pets. The finely ground turkey necks help achieve a balanced ratio, making them a beneficial inclusion in the diet.

Feeding Guidelines

We recommend 2%-3% of your dog’s body weight being fed daily based on life stage and energy requirements. For puppies and/or pregnant/lactating females we recommend 4% – 6% of body weight daily. For senior or weight conscious dogs we recommend 1.5% – 2% of body weight daily depending on the fat content of the different protein formulations.
